Ninefoldby Best Pay

How it works

From a file on your side to a receipt anyone can check.

Your file never leaves you. Ninefold only ever sees its seal, the 64-character SHA-256 fingerprint of its bytes.

  1. You seal

Your software sends one call with the file’s SHA-256 seal, a reference such as an invoice number, and an optional label. The file stays with you.

  2. We record

The record becomes the next line of your own write-once ledger (WORM: write once, read many). A line can be added, never changed. Changing an earlier line would break every line after it.

  3. Best Pay anchors

Best Pay signs the waiting records as one batch, with a signing key kept on a hardware security token. Receipts are ready after the anchor. We don’t promise same-day receipts.

  4. You download the receipt and keep it

Each sealed record gets its own Best Pay Receipt: a small text file you store on your own device or system. It doesn’t depend on Ninefold staying online.

  5. Anyone checks it

Your customer, auditor or lawyer checks the receipt against Best Pay’s published public key. No account, no ledger and no call to Ninefold is needed.

What a valid receipt means

The record’s seal, reference and label are exactly what was sealed, and Best Pay’s published key signed the batch it belongs to.

What it does not mean

It doesn’t mean the file is true, that a payment happened, that a person is who they say, or that a court will accept it.

Built to be checked, not trusted

Why it holds up

Hardware-held key

The signing key lives on a hardware token on Best Pay’s own machine. The server that takes your calls never holds it.

Your ledger, alone

Each customer has a private ledger. Your records aren’t mixed with anyone else’s, and earlier records are never erased, even after you cancel.

A public check

The public key is published at api.bestninefold.com/v1/pubkey. A receipt checks against it with no help from us.
